Who is the Official Event Charity?
Roy's Desert Resourse Center is the Official Palm Desert Century Charity. Roy's is a 129-bed emergency shelter providing a full range of services for the needy and homeless (mostly families) of the western Coachella Valley. Located in Palm Springs near I-10 and Indian Ave, the facility opened in 2009. Friends of Roy's Foundation's mission is to raise public awareness and to seek funding for the support of Roy's Desert Resource Center. Clients accepted into the 120-day program are screened for addictions and felony convictions. The program has a remarkable success rate of 80%. All proceeds go directly to Roy's.
The bulk of the 2011 Palm Desert Century Volunteers are coming from Roy's. Please help return the favor by giving generously. A little goes a long way!
Here's a link to the Palm Desert Century fundraising campaign for Roy's. If you missed it during registration, please click through and see the wonderful response from Palm Desert Century riders. There's even a turn-key way to create mini-fundraising campaigns. Let's all do what we can to support Roy's. They will be out in force on Sat help us all along the route. We can help them help themselves by donating to their worthy cause.
Please consider donating similar to what you would tip at any restaurant. A 15-20% donation, based upon your Registration Fee would be a tremendous help in achieving the 1st year goal of $10,000. Currently, all funding comes from local communites. Let's show the desert communities we support their goals and we're willing to help their citizens who are most in need. It's a fantastic way to create Goodwill for future Palm Desert Century events. Many Thanks!
What's included in the registration price?
For 2011: You will receive entry to the ride, and optional chip timed 15-mile Time Trial (for century riders), access to several strategically positioned, manned rest stops with water and other nutritional items, a Subway sandwich lunch at either the Start/Finish in Palm Desert, or near Mecca (turnaround point), Custom Medal and Pin, on-course mechanic and SAG support, and route maps with directions and elevation profiles, an expanded Finish Expo/Festival with tables and chairs, DJ Music, Live Music, Exhibitor and Sponsor booths, and food vendors.
You also receive, primarily, a very unique century ride featuring world-class, wide open pristine desert views on mostly low traffic roads, with minimal stop signs in 100 miles, held at the ideal time of year for low desert cycling. One more major benefit is the support of the local citizens and businesses of Palm Desert. This kind of local support is what any century rider lives for!
As with any event, the organizers deal with myriad roadblocks, issues, and expenses such as insurance, law presence, permits, marketing, etc. The goal of Shadow Tour has always been to host exceptional century rides. To make this happen, we know no amount of paid advertising will ever match the power, impact, and results of informal individual satisfied previous riders communicating our message to friends and other riders. We hope to earn your endorsement as we build a wide foundation of local, regional, and national support.
Lastly, we know we can improve. We welcome constructive comments and suggestions to help make this event even more enjoyable in the future.
