This one-of-a-kind gem of a desert century tours mid to low desert regions in and around Borrego Springs, Anza-Borrego State Park, and Salton City, California. The century features an astonishing variety of untouched desert flora and fauna. Wide bike lanes, low vehicle traffic, zero stop lights, and great local support set the stage for riders to marvel at the beauty of California's inland empire while riding several distance options from 28 to 100 miles. Riders visit the high point on the course at the Yaqui Pass Summit, elevation 1,750 feet, then descend
72 feet below sea level toward the awe-inspiring Salton Sea.
As with all Shadow Tour events, the Salton Sea Century is hosted in a purposely remote site to optimize low vehicle traffic, a world class course, friendship, and a tangible connection with nature. Expect sunny fall weather in the desert, with temps usually in the 80's and 90's F with developing afternoon winds.
The 2007 Salton Sea Century was coincidentally hosted just one day
before the So. Cal. wildfires. In just seven months, Mother Nature has already proven amazingly resilient. We're confident the
Sturdy Riders from the inaugural Salton Sea Century have also recuperated from their personal/group duels with tough gusting afternoon winds. A total of 42 determined cyclists went the Full Century distance, out of 353 registered riders,
