Dear Festa! Riders,
Many Thanks to riders, sponsors, volunteers, local communities, and permitting agencies involved with the 2009 Festa! Metric Century. Mother Nature cooperated by delivering a comfortably cool morning start and a perfectly sunny and warm afternoon finish.
The field was graced with 315 registered riders, from which 203 completed the Full Metric Century, click here. If we missed recording you as a Full Century Finisher (60 miles), please email Jim with your Name & Bib # in the subject line.
At the starting line, Fernando Sustaeta, from Ferrari & Masserati of San Diego, led out the 1st wave of Festa cyclists in a brand new bright red Ferrari California on the fun 2-mile warm-up lap through Little Italy. Riders were assisted by attentive San Diego Police Department Traffic Controllers.
On the course, volunteers from Tour De Cure were on hand at Rest Stop #1, in Glen Abbey Memorial Park's parking lot, World Cycles volunteers handled Rest Stop #2 at the Otay Lakes boat landing, cool locals ran Rest Stop #3 at Thousand Trails RV Park, and Performance Bikes /Tour De Cure vols were on hand at Rest Stop #4 at the Bonita Performance Bicycle Shop. Team in Training also helped at the postride pasta meal.
Festa Riders selected various distances. One happy group of 17 riders, from San Diego's noPed Cycles, celebrated at the finish line. They proved their motto of "No Sweat, It's Electric!".
Over 200 riders made the 5-block walk/ride to the Po Pazzo Restaurant for the Pasta + Veggie + Fruit Buffet. Head Chef Nino, planned, supervised, and delivered a wonderful spread for Festa! riders.
The Saturday Farmer's Market (Mercato), was a centerpiece attraction in the heart of Little Italy at the intersection of Date & India St. on Saturday. Many thanks for Mercato's kind support of the ride. The Farmer's Market is held every Saturday in Little Italy from 9:00 A.M. to 1:30 P.M.
Finally, the Festa! Metric Century was made possible by the stellar support of Title Sponsor, the Little Italy Association, under the strong leadership of Executive Director, Marco Li Mandri, Board President, Steve Galasso, and District Manager, Chris Gomez.
Numerous riders stayed the weekend to take part in Sunday's 15th Annual Festa! Celebration in Little Italy. We hope all riders enjoyed the numerous Festa-related elements and left with positive and memorable experiences.
Thank You to all 2009 Festa! Metric Century riders for your participation.
