Dear Sturdy Riders,

Thank You for joining us at the 2009 Spring Stagecoach Century.  We're proud to report the field included 161 registered riders from 6 states. We hope you enjoyed your Spring desert riding and left with a positive memorable experience.

Stagecoach riders were fortunate the desert windstorm virtually disappeared overnight on Friday night.  For once, the forecast was accurate!  Winds had been gusting to 40+ MPH on Friday.  Saturday early A.M. temps were in the upper 40's F and rose gradually to an afternoon high of 73F.  Morning winds were mild, 3 to 8 MPH and gusted to about 12 MPH in the afternoon.

The near ideal weather conditions contributed to a very high rate of Full Century Finishers, with 101 of 161 successfully completing the entire 100 mile route.  The list of Full Century
finishers is posted under the "Results & Records" tab, then "Spring Stagecoach" and "2009 Results".  Click here for a direct link.  Congratulations to all who made it.  Veteran Stagecoach riders know Mother Nature was gentle this time.  Nonetheless, with over 4,800 ft of total climbing in the early Spring, the Stagecoach Century is always a Century Earned.

Several riders sent complimentary and constructive emails praising the outstanding work of our loyal and hard-working volunteers and offered suggestions for improvement.  We have passed these comments along to the appropriate individuals.  We assure you, the volunteers enjoyed being a part of your ride experience.  They take great pride in exceeding your expectations as they give up their Saturday to help support you.

Our key volunteers in Ocotillo, Jimmy Ray and Eleanor Jones, along with their counterparts in Shelter Valley, Rick Sparks and Diane Schmitz, enjoy spoiling Shadow Tour cyclists!  Having this level of community support is a ride director's dream.  We are fortunate to have this outstanding grassroots support.

The staff at Shadow Tour is pleased to report all three 8-time Shadow Tour century riders, Karen Finkelstein, Courtney Krehbiel, and Amy Snyder were in the field on Saturday.  All three successfully completed the full century course, thus extending their Shadow Tour participation to 9 of 10 total events.  Nicely done!  We look forward to seeing who will extend the streak to 10 this Fall.

Many newcomers to distance cycling also successfully participated in their first desert ride on Saturday.  Regardless of the final distance ridden, or time, Well Done!  Larry and I encourage you to participate in many more century rides as your riding base, experience, and confidence build.  The sport of cycling has few boundaries and limitless potential.  Each rider can achieve success on a very personal level.

Spending a day spinning way out on a remote stretch of desert asphalt offers one a chance to take in the grandeur of nature in it's abundant glory, without the interference of cars, neon signs, and stoplights.  At Stagecoach, the scenery you saw is virtually identical to what our forefathers saw in 1849.  Those historical markers along the route are the namesake for this ride.  Real pony express stagecoaches bounced along the dusty Great Southern Overland Stage Route of 1849.  You saw their trail carved into the desert from the top of Campbell Grade out in the desert.  This connection makes epic rides even more memorable.

Our good friends at Brightroom.com Photography are currently hard at work matching your on-course photos to your helmet numbers.  The photos were shot by Gary Campbell from Irvine and his expert crew.  When Brightroom has completed the compilation, they will let all riders know by email.  Here's a direct link to the 2009 Spring Stagecoach Century event on Brightroom's website.

For riders who wish to purchase a 2009 Spring Stagecoach Jersey, it's not too late!  The 2nd Production Run will be sent to Voler for production on Friday, Apr 13, '09.  If you want to order a jersey, please send a reservation email to Jim by Thu, Apr 12, with your size, quantity, and preferred shipping address.  The price is $70 and includes tax and shipping.  Mail your payment by check, made out to ST Promotions, LLC to:

ST Promotions, LLC
Attn:  Jersey
12374 Carmel Country Rd, #H108
San Diego, CA  92130

The jerseys take about 6 weeks to produce.  We expect they will ship in early June.  Check the Spring Stagecoach web page for updates.

Finally, to all riders, from first-timer to loyal Shadow Tour veteran, we extend our gratitude for your support and helping us spread the word to other riders.  Please remember our personal invitation to join us for future events has no expiration date.

Enjoy your Spring and Summer cycling and please stay safe!

Most Respectfully,

Jim and Larry
