Dear Fiesta Riders,

Congratulations to all participants in this year's Fiesta Metric Century!  We send our sincere gratitude to all Riders, Sponsors, Communities, and Permitting Agencies involved with Fiesta.

A Special Thank You to Bike Shop Sponsor, Moment Cycle Sport.  Rachel and her Moment Cycle Sport crew did a fabulous job staffing Rest Stop #1 / #4 and their booth at the Finish Line Expo.

Mother Nature served up a delightful late Spring day, with cool early morning temps.  The marine layer gradually thinned in the late afternoon, giving way to some sunshine on the coast and more sunny & warmer conditions inland.

This year's Fiesta Metric Century attracted a robust field of 491 riders of all skill levels.  There were riders from California, Arizona, Nevada, South Carolina, and Georgia.  The field had 63% Male and 37% Female.  We're pleased to report that of the 374 Full Course registered riders, 339 started and 284 completed the Full Metric Century.  That's a solid 83.8% finishing rate!  Click here to view the results.

If we missed recording you as a Full Century Finisher (and you registered for the Full Course) please accept our apology and email Jim with your Name & Bib # in the Subject line.  We'll remedy the oversight asap.

Regardless of the distance you rode, all riders earned bragging rights at this year's Fiesta.  Navigating through the Port & Shipyard stretch is always a challenge.  This year's Bike Detour was necessary to avoid emergency repairs being made on Harbor Drive.  Thanks for your care & attention to safety, patience, and understanding riding through the Bike Detour in both directions.

Cycling through the heart of the 8th largest Metro Area in the U.S. necessitates tradeoffs in order to enjoy the Peppertree-lined Hunte Pkwy and serene Otay Lakes views.  Post-ride, riders reminded us about the roller hills on Otay Lakes Rd, in addition to the Mt. Miguel Rd 2-mi climb, all requiring real effort!  For those on Strava.com, our Palm Desert Time Trial Champion and recent Record-Setting Champion at Breathless Agony, set a new KOM mark on the 1.4 mile San Miguel Ranch Rd segment--Congrat's!  Many Thanks to Navy Lt Cdr Matt Muehlbauer, who rode 30 min ahead of the 1st Wave and reported back to Staff all along the course that signs were in place and the course was clear.

Sami Tauber, owner of BikeWearWorld and uRide.tv  was at Fiesta shooting some great video of riders in action.  Here's the link to her You Tube video:  Click here.  Well done and Thanks Sami!

Our compliments to each rider for exercising extra caution all along the routes.  Safety is always our #1 concern. Thanks for your alert riding, pointing out obstacles to each other, signalling your intentions, riding single file to the right of the road, and for watching out for each other. Expecting the unexpected is the name-of-the-game while cycling on public roadways.

A special Thank You to wonderful volunteers from the San Diego So Cal Coasters (SCC) bicycle club. They began their contribution to Fiesta at 4:45 A.M. on Fri, when SCC vols Tim, Rachel, and Brent marked the entire route with signs. With 40+ turns, they did a masterful job placing stickers, yellow arrow barricade signs, and Acme warning signs all along the course, including extra signs on the Bike Detour. Rest assured, marking the course to this high level required substantial effort and teamwork. To learn more about the SCC club, or to join, please visit their website.

SCS Photoworks is hard at work matching helmet numbers on photos. They expect to have them ready soon. We'll post a message on the website and riders will receive an email when photos are ready for purchase. Scott Stolarz is a highly skilled photographer, who takes great pride in his craft. His crew member, Jon, was at the Finish Line capturing every single finisher's photo.

Co-Founder Larry & Jim are always humbled by the many "Above & Beyond" contributions made by Shadow Tour Sponsors, Service providers, Volunteers, and Friends. Matt from Traction Bicycles worked tirelessly on the course keeping riders rolling, helping 20+ riders!  Justin from Holland Cycles patrolled Harbor Dr all morning.  Mark Zerega & David Nilson handled SAG from Rest Stop #1 to #4.  Friends Angelika Drake, Lorraine Daly, Tara Quick, and long-time Shadow Tour Veteran, Natalie Fennel, worked Fri/Sat Packet pick-up and the Finish Line recording Full Century Finishers.  At the Rest Stops, Moment Cycle Sport, with Sara, Lynne, and JT, staffed RS 1/4; Rick Knaggs & Team in Training vol's staffed RS 2; and Gloria & Family staffed RS 3 (4th year in a row).

El Indio Restaurant expertly catered the delicious Mexican Buffet, while Manny Cepeda provided continuous musical entertainment with his talented Salsa Band.
