2008 Stagecoach Team Time Trial Guidelines:
Updated 9-10-08 (Recent changes in blue text)
These guidelines are the framework for the Stagecoach Century Four-Person 100 Mile Ultimate Team Time Trial (TTT). The TTT Rules and Team Formation Process are now posted. From time-to-time, the Rules are updated with changes, so each team needs to check them periodically. As with any new extreme test of athletic endurance, this TTT will have safety as it's primary concern. The rules help insure not only a level playing field for all competitors, but a safe way to share the road with vehicles and other riders. When in doubt, follow the Fireweed 400 motto: "Safety First, Fun Second, Success third".
The Stagecoach Century Team Time Trial is limited to FOUR-PERSON TEAMS (riding together) and TWO-PERSON TANDEM TEAMS (no substitutions) riding against the clock. This is NOT a relay, nor are relays permitted anywhere on the course. The number of official team entries is initially capped at 60. Teams start prior to individual century riders. Each team needs to report in to the Timing Marshal at the Start Chute between 6:30 - 7:00 A.M. Teams will be started at various intervals of approximately 15 seconds, beginning at 7:00 A.M. and will continue until the final team departs at 8:00 A.M. (depending on final field size). Team arriving to check-in by 8:00 A.M. will be assigned a starting time with no penalty. Teams checking in after 8:00 A.M. will be assessed a 15 minute penalty, see TTT Rules.
The venue capacity for teams is 60. Regardless of the final number of teams, each team is individually responsible to be in position, with all team members, to start their TTT at their assigned time. The Timing Marshall and volunteers will assist teams by limiting access to the TTT Start Chute area to the next three teams in the start queue. Final team composition adjustments may be made up until this point (inside the start queue). Team captains will communicate any changes to the Timing Marshall who will validate the final team composition on the official Team Roster Form and assign a start time. Each team will be counted down from 5 seconds to their exact start time.
Team start times are fixed. If a team arrives late to the start chute, their start time will not be adjusted, just like at the Tour De France. Teams arriving late will be permitted to start at the discretion of the Timing Marshal and a maximum 15 minute Time Penalty will be levied.
The TTT format is NO DRAFTING, except within and among members of 4-person teams. This means teams may not draft other teams, nor individual riders, nor Tandem Teams, nor groups of individual riders--also just as in the Tour De France. The Stagecoach route is open to local vehicle traffic. Teams must obey all traffic laws at all times. That means when teams encounter the two stop signs, the entire team must come to a full stop before proceeding and obey all instructions of CHP Officers. All team members must read and abide by the TTT Rules. Breaking traffic laws and/or navigating in an unsafe or aggressive manner will result in disqualification. Inside designated Red Zones the speed limit for all teams and riders is 20 MPH -- no exceptions. For less serious rule infractions, time penalties will be levied by the Timing Marshal and Course Marshals.
