2008 Salton Sea Century Super Saver Deadline

Aug 7, '08

Welcome Riders!
Hoping everyone is enjoying a summer of great riding!  Shadow Tour founders, Larry and Jim, were at it again:  Larry rode 1,090 miles in 9 days to Colorado and Jim completed his 4th replica of the entire Tour De France bike race, right here in Southern California.  We're pleased to report 60 riders pre-registered for the upcoming Salton Sea Century.  Our target for this year is 500 riders, so we need your help to achieve this ambitious goal.

At Shadow Tour, we believe there's no reason to allow high oil prices (supplied by anti-USA countries) to cause us to retreat!  We choose to continue enjoying our passion for cycling on 'roads less traveled'.  Realistically, a simple carpool neutralizes the gas nuisance and even enhances the experience by sharing it with friends and family.

It's not always easy, but external influences, like a shaky economy, the credit crunch, and high fuel prices, need not derail your enjoyment of cycling, reaching your fitness goals, and participating in high quality destination cycling events.  At our end, we're committed to continuing our production of top-notch century rides.
We've kept our prices affordable, especially for riders who register early.  We offer past riders and members of our email list an additional $5 savings by using a special promocode: SHADOW5.  The communities of Borrego Springs and Salton City are very supportive of the ride and look forward to your visit this fall.  Several hotel proprietors in Borrego Springs are offering nice discounts to century riders -- it's always a good idea to ask!  The desert offers a wide variety of activities from guided desert hikes to tennis...fun stuff for all family members.  So now is actually an IDEAL time to enjoy a true destination century ride and you can bring the family!

The Super Saver deadline is coming up soon, so we wanted to remind everyone to register now for the 2nd Annual Salton Sea Century on Saturday, Oct 18, '08 in scenic Borrego Springs, CA (about 90 miles northeast of San Diego.  Another reason to register before the Super Saver deadline on Aug 18, is that's also the deadline for pre-ordering custom Voler jerseys to have them available at packet pick-up.  Click here to visit the Salton Sea Century web pages.

This one-of-a-kind gem of a desert century tours mid to low desert regions in and around Borrego Springs, Anza-Borrego State Park, and Salton City, California.  The century features an astonishing variety of untouched desert flora and fauna.  Wide bike lanes, low vehicle traffic, zero stop lights, and great local support set the stage for riders to marvel at the beauty of California's inland empire while riding several distance options from 17 to 100 miles.  Riders visit the high point on the course at the Yaqui Pass Summit, elevation 1,750 feet, then descend 72 feet below sea level toward the awe-inspiring Salton Sea.

As with all Shadow Tour events, the Salton Sea Century is hosted in a more remote location to optimize low vehicle traffic and world class natural scenery, while offering a challenging -- yet manageable -- course with several optional distances.  Together these create a tangible connection with nature and the elements of temperature, wind, and elevation.  Expect sunny fall weather in the desert, with temps usually in the 80's and 90's F with typical afternoon desert winds.

Cyclists from beginner through advanced are welcome to register now for the 2008 Salton Sea Century.  "Super Saver" prices are good through Aug 18, '08. Past Shadow Tour riders and members of the interest list may use special promo code "SHADOW5" to save $5. See coupon below for details.

Below is a partial list of what makes the Salton Sea Century such a great ride.  You'll never know how amazing it is to spin below sea level to the Salton Sea until you've done it, so register today.  And nothing makes a world-class cycling course more memorable than inviting your friends and family to share the experience with you.

In closing, we sure need your help in spreading the word.  You can easily do this by scrolling down to "Forward email" and sending this email to a few of your cycling buddies.  Another way is by listing the Salton Sea Century and link on your club or organization website.  We would be honored by any mentions of the Shadow Tour website www.shadowtour.com in emailed newsletters or promotions.  We sincerely appreciate your support!

Best Wishes,
Jim and Larry
