Dear Fiesta Riders,

Our sincere thanks to all riders, sponsors, volunteers, local communities, and permitting agencies involved with the 2nd Annual 2010 Fiesta Metric Century.  Mother Nature cooperated by delivering a comfortably cool morning start, and a warm afternoon finish, with sunny skies at the east end of the course.

This year's Fiesta was a sell-out, at exactly 500 registered riders.  We're pleased to report that of the 341 Full Course Riders, 311 started, and 287 completed the Full Metric Century.  That's an outstanding 92.2% finishing rate!  If we missed recording you as a Full Century Finisher (and you were registered as a Full Century rider) please accept our apology and email Jim with your name and bib number.  We'll immediately remedy the oversight.

Regardless of the distance you rode, all riders earned bragging rights at this year's ride.  Navigating through the port and shipyard stretch is always a challenge.  And cycling through the heart of the 8th largest U.S. Metro area to get to the scenic Hunte Pkwy and Otay Lakes areas isn't all that easy either.  But once there, the rural views were well worth it.  We know that navigating 40+ turns also requires lots of rider attention.  While limited on how we can mark turns, we'll do our best to improve the use of road arrows and signs on next year's route.

Special thanks is due the 200+ riders who rolled early in the 6:30 - 7:30 A.M. start window.  Two of our long-time volunteers, Angelika and Fletch, organized the 25-person waves to safely launch riders onto the course.  We appreciate everyone's patience and cooperation in maintaining a safe and orderly start.

Many of you waved at the videographer.  Click here to view the Fiesta video produced courtesy of Bikewearworld.com and www.uRide.tv, thanks Sarah & Sami!

Out on the course, outstanding volunteers from Moment Cycle Sport managed Rest Stop #1 / #4 at the Bonita Plaza/Sweetwater Bike Path location.  For the 2nd year, World Cycles volunteers ran Rest Stop #2 at the Otay Lakes boat landing, and cool local volunteers, Gloria, Shelley, and others, headed up Rest Stop #3 at Thousand Trails RV Park. World Cycles also assisted with early morning wrench support (along with Tom and Dawn Cody of Bikemobile), and managed the Finish line, with 13-year-old Kendra, who passed out well-earned Fiesta medals to all finishers.

Fiesta Riders selected various distances and had widely varied goals.  Some riders rejoiced at completing the 20-mile course.  One happy group of about 12 riders from Redlands finished with many smiling faces at their successful completion at the very end of the event.  Some experienced riders enjoyed a swift, but tough, tour of the entire course, returning a little before 10:00 A.M.

A San Diego institution, El Indio Restaurant, catered the Mexican Buffet.  Many riders have sent compliments.  Next year, we'll add some additional healthy items like steamed rice and veggies to compliment the tasty Mexican cuisine.  We'll also remember to put out the cookies that were hiding under the table cloth (sorry!).

Many thanks to Manny Cededa's Salsa Band, that started early and played late.  Their music was a welcome addition to the Fiesta.  Numerous riders and volunteers were seen out on the dance floor.

Finally, the Fiesta Metric Century is extremely proud of the stellar support of Presenting Sponsor, Scripps Health.  We send our sincere thanks for their exceptional support of the event to Scripps Health, Martha Sanchez (Health Resources Events), and Patty Bernal (Market Outreach Manager).

We also thank Kevin Marquez, group manager at the Host Hotel, Hampton Inn San Diego-Downtown, for the many accommodations granted to our riders, from discounted rider rates, to free parking for in-and-out packet pick up.

Again, thank you to all 2010 Fiesta Metric Century riders.  We hope you had an overall positive experience at this year's Fiesta.  We'd love to have you join us again next year.  And don't forget to consider our forthcoming rides:
