Inaugural Spring Rush Century

Chiriaco Summit Time Trial

Dear Spring Rush Century Riders,

The Spring Rush Century (SRC) rolled as scheduled on Sat, Mar 23, '13. Favorable weather, with sunny skies, and warm temps and mostly mild winds (for the desert) helped make the day even more memorable. This "Round up" email showcases some event highlights.

THANK YOU for participating! Congratulations to all riders, regardless of distance, or time, ridden. The desert can be a harsh & unforgiving place--gnarly headwinds on Box Canyon was only a sample!  Shadow Tour is proud of every rider for keeping it together, staying safe, riding your plan, following the Rider Instructions, and achieving your personal goals.

We send our Gratitude to the City of Palm Desert for their tremendous support of the ride.  We acknowledge the fine support from the Desert Recreation District who permitted the event to be held at their lovely University Park.  Especially noteworthy were organizational and planning efforts of Frankie Riddle, at the City of Palm Desert, and Jeff Ronci, from the Desert Recreation District.  Many thanks to Jack Cummings from Riverside County Transportation for sending crews to sweep of the entire Box Canyon Road segment just prior to the ride.   These are all outstanding examples of governmental entities operating in the A+ range!  Thanks also to Rick & Fred Evans (The Evans Company) for allowing the use of their University Village parking lots.

1.  The Field:  There were 234 Final Registered Riders:  153 Full Course + 81 Short Course Riders.  219 riders picked up packets on Fri & Sat.  The Preliminary Full Century Finishers List has 106 riders.  There were also 4 Super Century Warriors, who made the Noon cut-off at Rest Stop #3 and repeated the difficult TT course a 2nd time:

     Dennis Kasischke, San Diego, CA
     Kim Le, El Cajon, CA

     Gil Lopez, Palm Desert, CA
Kurt Madden, Big Bear City, CA

The Full/Super Century Finisher count may rise, as some riders did not check in at the finish, or crossed the finish after the 5:00 P.M. course deadline (see item #2 below).

Registered Riders traveled from 8 States (California, Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, Washington, Florida, Maryland) and Canada.

2.  Full/Super Century Finishers:  If you registered for the FULL CENTURY, or FULL CENTURY W/TT, and you completed the 100 or 130 mile course, but your name is missing from the list, please send Jim an email with "FC" (Full Century) or "SC" (Super Century) and your Bib # in the Subject Line.  The  Full Century Finishers List will be updated through Friday, Mar 29, '13, then locked in.  Note: SHORT COURSE riders are not eligible.

3.  Preliminary Time Trial Results:  CEP Timing and owner Jason Kornetsky did a fine job capturing accurate results for TT Riders. Congrat's to all who opted-in for the 14.65 mile TT up Box Canyon. Preliminary Results are posted on the CEP Timing website and show Men's Overall Champion Eric Wiebe, 52, from La Quinta, and Women's Overall Champion Dori Lewis from Laguna Hills. Both Champs battled hard vs. wicked headwinds up Box Canyon Rd! In the Men's Field,  Eric posted the winning time of 1:00:46, followed by Thomas Hatcher, 62 from Richland, WA (1:02:01), then Paul Adamson, 43, Running Springs, CA (1:02:19). In the Women's field, Dori posted the winning time of 1:12:29 and held off 22-time Shadow Tour Century Finisher Karen Finkelstein (1:16:16) from Carlsbad, CA, and hard-charging 3rd Place finisher Beverly Hutchison from Valencia, CA (1:19:39).

To resolve any timing issues, email CEP Timing prior to Noon Fri, Mar 29, '13.  Results go FINAL as of Noon on Friday. Trophies will be mailed to the Top 3 Men & Women TT Overall after the results are finalized.

     Desert Chapel Ministries
     Attn:  Spring Rush Century

All Donations go to directly to the charities involved.  Think back to your ride and how nice it was to roll into a Rest Stop and have everything you needed ready.  Remember the rousing "Welcome Home" from Vol's at the Finish Line cheering you in with Cowbells!
We all routinely tip restaurant servers, even for average service.  Here's your last chance to show your gratitude to the Vol's who provided "Top Notch" service with Genuine Care & Smiles.  Please do what you can to help.  Building Goodwill in Coachella Valley benefits all of us!

7.  SCS Photoworks Photos: Scott Stolarz and his crew are busy matching hundreds of rider photos and Bib #'s.   Here's the link to the SCS Photoworks website.  Rider photos will be posted soon.  An email will notify riders when the photos are ready.  You can search for your photo by Bib # or name.  There's also a Missing Bib # section.  The wind gusts caused some helmet numbers to come off.  Be sure to browse through the Missing Bib # section to locate additional images.
